On Saturday 27th September Youghal GAA held their second Eochaill Óg Under 5/6/7 “Train with Me” of the year. Parents were invited to train alongside their child in what was an exceptionally well attended event and a fun day for parents and children alike. While the children completed their warm-up routine and fun games, Ger O'Leary, Eochaill Óg U6 Manager, gave a demonstration to the parents on the basic skills of Gaelic Football and some fun games that children can play at home that will improve their ball handling skills and hand eye coordination.
John O'Sullivan, Eochaill Óg U7 Manager, asked for more parents to get involved with coaching of the underage teams, and Aidan Foley, Eochaill Óg club Coach; will be holding a coaching session for parents on Monday 27th October. This was followed by a series of football drills, where kicking, catching, hand passing and bouncing were the key skills practiced by parents and children. Matches were also played, with parents versus children and even though the contests were very "competitive" the parents teams were all "well beaten" by the enthusiastic and skillful children. Refreshments were served in the bar afterwards and we would like to say a special thank you to all the parents who prepared and served the delicious food on the day. The number of people that brought food and assisted on the day was fantastic to see. All in all it was a terrific day and really enjoyable from both the parents and kids point of view.
