The long awaited trip to Kerry which was anticipated by all went ahead last Saturday the 3rd March. This trip was planned at the start of the year and was pushed out from February to March due to weather issues in North Kerry.
47 Players from both groups U12/14 and very welcome support from parents took to the bus at 9am from Club Aras in Youghal. The Bus trip to Killarney for the first stop ended up with a small bit of a shopping event compliments of “Claire’s” accessories at the outlet Centre. The fashion on show was a sight with the whole event and tour been christened the“Bling Bling Tour 2012”. We arrived in North Kerry just after Lunch for our first match with the U12s We had some good spells of play from all players but ended up loosing to a very good team. The U12 team is in a transition of development, blending those just out of U10 grade with current U12 players. The year will have a different focus on Development, improving the basic skill level at this grade and full inclusion of all players. The U14 game went ahead just after and from the off the challenge was very strong by Finuge. There were some very noticeable individual battles on the field with Finuge which had some gracious comments by the chair of Finuge club. Finuge in North Kerry have senior ladies football and the under age structure of the club has some serious coaching going on. The club was voted Club of the year in Kerry in 2011 and once we arranged this challenge we were aware that it was a strong club with good football roots. We learnt a lot more about individual players and our own abilities as a team from this day which we hope will stand to us on in the near future. The hospitality shown to us by this club was very welcome with refreshment’s been served before our journey home. We presented Finuge with a shield in appreciation for hosting us and currently it is been considered in a Memorial tournament for one of their senior players who passed away following an accident last year. It is a very good thought to know Youghal Ladies Football is involved in such considerations on a tournament outside of our own county. We would like to thank the Parents; Siobhán, Marie , Alison, Niamh and Caroline who gave 100% on the day andwithout that extra bit of help it wouldn’t have gone off so smoothly. And of Course the players, they were a credit to their parents, a credit to themselves and a credit to represent their club the way they did….BLING BLING! Gordon/Finbar / Jenna &Claire
