Youghal U12 hurlers travelled to John Lockes GAA Club, Callan, Co Kilkenny for their annual blitz on Sunday August 16th. Ten of the best teams in Kilkenny competed in this event, which commenced with a parade of all teams through Callan town to John Lockes GAA grounds, where a feast of hurling took place. Youghal’s group contained Dunnamaggin, Grange/Ballycallan and Thomastown, who themselves were going for 3 in a row in the competition. Youghal hit the ground running in their first group match and were far too strong for Grange/Ballycallan. The second game versus Thomastown was won with a minute to go with a last minute goal, and a great second half by the Youghal lads versus Dunnamaggin in the 3rd game brought home the spoils. As a result, Youghal qualified for the final, a superb first half laid the foundations of this victory against Castletown/Slieve Bloom and Youghal ran out 2-07 to 1-02 winners. There was great celebrations from all the parents and supporters that travelled following on from the lifting of the Colm Nolan memorial cup by joint captains of the day Josh Persuad and Sean O’Riordan. All in all it was a great day, where the hosts Callan GAA club laid on a tremendous day, and to go to into Kilkenny and beat 3 Kilkenny teams is always a great achievement. The results of the day were:-
  • Youghal 1-08 v Grange/Ballycallan 0-02;
  • Youghal 3-03 v Thomastown 1-07;
  • Youghal 4-05 v Dunnamaggin 2-04
  • Final: Youghal 2-07 v Castletown/Slieve Bloom 1-02
