Youghal GAA wins Irish Language Award

Youghal GAA Club were recently announced as the County Cork winners of An Turas Teanga 2014, a national competition run by the GAA Coiste Náisiúnta na Gaeilge and Glór na nGael, one of the lead national Irish Language organisations. The Turas Teanga, or language journey was developed to provide recognition and support to GAA clubs who are working to develop the use of the Irish Language as part of the life of the club. At a meeting recently in Áras Mumhan, the Munster GAA headquarters in Limerick, Liam Ó Laodhcha, Irish Language and Culture Officer with Youghal GAA Club was presented with a certificate by Cabríní de Barra, Development Officer for Munster with Glór na nGael to mark the clubs win. The club will also receive a cheque for €250.  Another East Cork Club, Castlelyons GAA received a Certificate of Participation to recognise their ongoing interest in further developing the use of the Irish language in the club. Ciarán Mac Cana, Irish Language and Cultural Officer with Castlelyons GAA accepted the Certificate on behalf of Castlelyons GAA. Cabríní de Barra thanked Liam Ó Laodhcha, Ciarán Mac Cana and Youghal and Castlelyons GGA clubs for their participation in the Turas Teanga and for the commitment shown in developing the use of the Irish Language within both clubs.
