Youghal were dominant in early stages into the wind and led 0-2 to 0-0 after 10 minutes. Critical mistakes in the backline and a failure to capitalise on chances created for scores saw the initiative lost and Doheny’s led 1-08 to 0-3 at half time. Youghal’s play became increasingly ragged culminating with the sending off of 3 players. This should never happen and acceptance of the referees decision however unpalatable it is must be part of team structure if games are to be won. Constant questioning of the referees decisions disrupted the play and ruled out any possibility of a comeback which was very much a possibility.

A very pleasing pipe-opener for our first game of the year. The selectors took the opportunity to experiment with some players in new positions and also some new players being given a run. After a good start and early scores, the team lost it’s way a bit coming up to half time. However, the team raised their game in the 2nd half with a very spirited performance. Best for Youghal were John Grace, Conor Spillane and Brett O’Mahony. The team are training very hard so here’s hoping for a very successful year
This 2nd round game was well contested and highly competitive all through. All through Eochaill opened very well and made the early running with Shane Spillane scoring an important early goal. In this period Brendan O’Sullivan and Oisin Murphy and Ciaran O’Mahony were very prominent. Points were scored by Vincie Murray (2) Ciaran O’Mahony (1) and Daniel Savage (1) Shane Flynn (2) and Oising Murphy (1) to leave the half time scsore Eochaill 1-7 Lisgoold 1-2.
Lisgoold opened the second period by determinently and scored 3 early points to narrow the margin. A well taken point by Vincie Murray stretched the lead again and Ciaran O’Mahony followed with a very good point. Lisgoold brought back the margin to a goal but Eochaill held on for a 1-9 to 1-6 victory with some great work in the backline by Stephen Twomey, Andrew Sheehan and Killian Daly who had a great first outing at adult level.
