Youghal 0-2 Cobh 0-3
The Juniors played their third league game at home last Monday night. Again the weather was against both teams with gale force winds and driving rain. It didn’t give either team a chance to play good Camogie and that showed in the score board. The backs again played a stormer and stopped a penalty in the second half. The pairing of Kelma McCarthy and Emily Roche proved to be of great benefit in the midfield and the two played very well together covering a lot of ground for 60 minutes. 1.Katie Sloane 2. Our under 16’s played their first league game away to Brian Dillon’s on Friday the 12 April. Our girls put up a strong preference but Brian Dillon’s were stronger on the night. Team : Aoife O’ Neill, Niamh Kelly, Clodagh O’ Keeffe, Ciara Flavin, Chloe Landers, Niamh Roche, Eimear Farrell, Erin Galvin, Aoife McCarthy, Lydia Blanke, Louise Dempsey, Ciara Crowley, Sophie Monaghan, Catriona O’ Keeffe, Cassie O’ Brien, Julia Piecuch, & Jessica Carroll. The Juniors played their first league game on Monday 8th April in what could only be defined as abysmal weather. The girls gave everything on the night even in the weather and showed great determination on their first outing. In the first half of the game the Youghal side dominated the possession but couldn’t make this show on the score line. With a pitch that was totally waterlogged and even the goal mouth had a foot of water in where both keepers took their mark. Twice in the second half the ball landed in the puddle giving the forwards no chance or even the oppositions goal keeper.
Youghal’s back line were consistent throughout Ann O’Connell took up the full back position flanked by the young Niamh Crowley. On the other corner there was a welcome return to the team of Ashleigh Corcoran. Edel O’Connell had an outstanding game in center back and when all others showed signs of tiredness it was Edel who continued to drive the team forward. The score line in the end didn’t reflect the game however but credit needs to be given to Vincent’s as they took their chances when they arose. The wing forward, no 13 played a great game for St Vincent’s and when on the ball proved a tricky woman to mark. Youghal 0-1 St Vincent’s 3 -1 Team 1. Dawn Kelly 2.
