Youghal played teams including - Bride Rovers and Fr O Neills. Great potential was seen in the Youghal girls, with great support from their parents. Great organising from Fr O Neills Camogie Club made it a very enjoyable day. Players on the day - Amy Herlihy, Eimear Farrell, Ciara Crowley, Meg Cronin, Clara Keane, Chloe Delaney, Jenny O Connor, Fidelma Flavin, Dannii Leahy, Sophie Lyons, Kayleigh Murphy, Aoife Flavin, Ciara Whyte, Jennifer McCarthy, Alicia McCarthy, Ciara O Brien.
Next Go Games Blitz to be played weekend of the 7/8th May, in Bride Rovers (Rathcormac). Youghal travelled to Castlelyons on tues evening to play their first league game this season. From the start Youghal dominated the game with our strong centre fields Catriona O Keeffe and Shauna O Connell, sending balls straight into the forward line to Aoife McCarthy and Aoife O Neill, great team spirit from Erin Galvin and Ciara Crowley sent Youghal on their way. Castlelyons lifted the game midways through the first half, but with Louise Dempsey and Amerah Hickey Goggin in the half back line Castlelyons found it very hard to get through. Our sub bench on the night made way onto the field in the second half with great play from Eimear Farrell and Clodagh O Keeffe, which will keep all players on their toes fighting for their places on the team.

Youghal lacked hunger in the first half and played at an uneven pace. The Back line found it very difficult with a strong sun in their eyes for the first 30 minutes, but Ashleigh Cocororan had a fantastic game in wing back position dominating the line and having her best game to date. Shona Cunningham had a great game after coming from a Cork intermidiete game earlier that day, and partnered Niamh Quill in mid field, a new position for Niamh who got on the score board. Scores also came from most of the forward line including Kelly McCarthy, Shannen Joyce and Siobhan Downing. The first half score line read 2.6 Youghal to 2.3 Sliabh Rua The second half was much better for the Youghal side, Ashleigh Cocoran who had dominated the first half was moved to centre back. Player of the match must go to the wonderful Roisin O’Keeffe who could be found all over the field supporting all her players throughout the game. A change of position in the second half was made with Niamh Quill moving to the half back line and Chloe Daly moving into mid field, a good move made from the side line which enabled the forwards to receive more ball. Subsitute Leah Broderick had a great run when coming on – scoring 4 unanswered points in a row. Final score Youghal 4.15 to Sliabh Rua 3.5 Team Dawn Kelly, Michaela Dalton, Ann O’Connell, Aishling O’Siochru, Chloe Daly, Sarah Flavin, Ashleigh Corcoran, Niamh Quill, Shona Cunningham, Shannen Joyce, Edel O’Connell, Roisin O’Keeffe, Amy Motherway, Siobhan Downing, Kelly McCarthy Subs used: Leah Broderick for Shannen Joyce Catriona Bulman Jr for Niamh Quill Suzie Fitzgibbon for Edel O’Connell Shannon Watson for Kelly McCarthy The u16 were in action on Saturday 9th April in their first league inconter. The game was played on home soil and the girls played a great game.
Final score 1.07 to Blarney 3.05 Scores coming from Leah Broderick Aoife McCarthy and Shannen Bulman. Youghal camogie started off their league campaign with a flying start on Friday 1st April under lights on their home ground.
Youghal started off at a slow pace for the first 10 minutes, but a Shona Cunningham free from the 45 steadied the girls. In the first half of the game the score line showed 1- 3 to Ballincollig's 0-3, 5 of Ballincollig's points came from frees. Captain, Siobhan Downing wracked up 1 - 1 and wing forward Roisin O'Keeffe scoring 1 point - all from play. After a dominated first half from Youghal the second half was hard fought after a strong Ballincollig side came out blazing in the second half. Changes at half time brought on Aishling Siochru in place of Michaela Dalton at left half back. Danger woman Leah Broderick was first to get on the score board in the second half with a fine point from just inside the 45. Youghal had a very strong breeze with them in the second half and were unlucky when given frees weren’t able to take their chances. More scores were to come from Siobhan Downing in the second half when she looked unstoppable with knocking in 2 - 1, one goal coming from a free. Also on form from frees was centre back Shona Cunningham, not in her usual possession but looking at her ease was able to also cos havoc with the Ballincollig side by scoring a goal from a free. Ballincollig scored 3 more points (2 from frees) in the second half but it wasn’t good enough and Youghals fitness showed in the last 10 minutes with surging runs from the wing backs and midfielders fielding excellent ball into the centre forward Edel O'Connell who was unmark able on the night. Team Dawn Kelly Michaela Dalton Ann o Connell, Ashley Corcoran Chloe Daly Shona Cunningham (1- 1) Niamh Quill Katie Sloane (0 - 1) Catherine O'Donoghue (0 -1) Leah Broderick (0-1) Edel O'Connell Roisin O'Keeffe (0-1) Amy Motherway Siobhan Downing (C) (4-3) Kelly McCarthy Substitions Ashling Siochru for Michaela Dalton Cathriona Bulman for Chloe Daly Sarah Flavin for Leah Broderick |
