The Juniors played their first league game on Monday 8th April in what could only be defined as abysmal weather. The girls gave everything on the night even in the weather and showed great determination on their first outing. In the first half of the game the Youghal side dominated the possession but couldn’t make this show on the score line. With a pitch that was totally waterlogged and even the goal mouth had a foot of water in where both keepers took their mark. Twice in the second half the ball landed in the puddle giving the forwards no chance or even the oppositions goal keeper.
Youghal’s back line were consistent throughout Ann O’Connell took up the full back position flanked by the young Niamh Crowley. On the other corner there was a welcome return to the team of Ashleigh Corcoran. Edel O’Connell had an outstanding game in center back and when all others showed signs of tiredness it was Edel who continued to drive the team forward. The score line in the end didn’t reflect the game however but credit needs to be given to Vincent’s as they took their chances when they arose. The wing forward, no 13 played a great game for St Vincent’s and when on the ball proved a tricky woman to mark. Youghal 0-1 St Vincent’s 3 -1 Team 1. Dawn Kelly 2.
