The Juniors were in action again last Friday night in the third game of the Championship. There were 4 teams in this round robin fixture - Ballincollig, Glen Rovers, Youghal and Castlemagner. Ballincollig and Castlemagner had 2 wins each under their belt and Youghal had one.
Going into the game against Castlemagner they knew they had to win in order of qualifying for the next round. Youghal had met Castlemagner earlier this year in the league but Youghal travelled there with alot of their team injured, Castlemagner thought this would be another walk in the park for them. The game started off well and it didnt take long for it to get into a good rythmn. Youghal were not aloud to hurl much with the phsicalllity that Castlemagner brought to the game. The new look centre half side, of Catherine O'Donoghue, Ashleigh Corcoran and Kerri Hancock played a fantastic game not leaving the full back line with very little to do. When the ball did come back there which was not to often Michaela Dalton was on top of her marker and did not give her an inch. Shona cunningham was on form again with her free taking knocking over 8 points from frees. Shanne Bulman who was left out of the starting 15 against the Glen, showed exactly what she is all about by scoring a lovely point from play in the first half and was undoubtly a great accet to the team on the night. Siobhan Downing was back to her old trickery again this week by putting another goal to the back of the net and popping a fine point over from play. All our subs got a run and when they came on played a very important role which proves what skill there is in the Youghal side. The juniors now must await the draw for the next game to see who they will meet, have no doubt about it though, they are side in this Junior B Championship that know they are in with a great chance of bringing home some more silver ware this year.
