U12 Ladies Football.
The U12 ladies have had an eventful few weeks with action against some of the top teams in Cork. First up was a narrow defeat against Erins Own on a wet and windy evening in Magners Hill where the girls just narrowly missed out in qualifying for the County A championship after going down by a late goal, Erins Own subsequently went on to quality for the A County Final. This defeat meant that we would play in the B County Championship (a first for any team from the Club to reach this grade). Our first game was against St Marys (Liscarroll / Dromina combination) where the girls put on an outstanding 2ndhalf performance to win by 8 pts. Next up was Éire Óg in the County semi-final where both teams put on an outstanding display of football. Éire Óg hit the front for the first time with 2 minutes to go and as the girls were chasing the equalising point we conceded an injury time goal on a breakaway attack which dashed our County dreams, a title subsequently won by Éire Óg. The management, club officers and parents are all in agreement that this group of ladies have given tremendous entertainment throughout the year and here’s hoping that well deserved success will not be far away. U12A East Cork Championship Semi-Final Eochaill 6-8 Na Piarsaig 2-7 Our U12 Gold team headed up to Fairhill on a sunny but cold Sunday morning to take on the the home team in this year's A championship semi-final. The first half was a very even affair unlike their earlier clash in July, with very little between the teams with both defences generally on top to leave the home side 2 points ahead 2-4 to 2-2 at the short whistle. To their credit the Youghal girls came out a team transformed and started to play some beautiful open football which resulted in great scores to put the game beyond Na Piarsaig's reach. In fairness the final scoreline doesn't due justice to a very determined performance from the local girls. It would be a bit unfair to single out any particular individuals as this was a great team effort so well done to all 15 girls on the day who gave it their all and are now looking forward to contesting the A Championship Final and the B League Final v Fermoy. Our Maroon team are busy preparing for their C Championship semi-final against Mayfield with Carrigtwohill awaiting the winners in the Final. U10 Ladies Football. The U10 ladies continued with their unbeaten run to qualify for the league semi-final where they overcame a determined Rock Bán side by 2 points to qualify for the A final against Aghada. Best of luck to all players and management.
