Youghal 3-4 v Ballinora 2 - 4
It has been a long year for our underage girls with the Minor final having to be played for the 3rd time. The girls took it in their stride though and trained hard while awaiting this date. The first game ended in a draw, with both teams putting up an excellent performance. The replay was the following week and fair play to players and supporters for braving the horrendous weather, the game went to half time and was then cancelled due to health and safety reasons with the weather. Third time lucky they say and so it proves for youghal's minor camogie team. Youghal settled early with a well taken free from Shannen Joyce who was carrying an injury into the game. Both teams exchanged attacks before the busy Ellie Budds made a fine run up the wing centering the ball which the goal keeper failed to control and Emily Roach was on hand to finish it by blasting the ball to the back of the net. Youghal battled on continuing to dominate on the field before Ashley O Brien managed to score an impressive goal at 18 minutes. Youghal were now leading 2-1 to no score when Ballinora registered their first goal from a 45 at 22 minutes. This was quickly followed by a goal at 24 minutes after some loose defending in midfield. The game had suddenly changed with youghal now under pressure. Then a moment of controversy as a perfectly good goal by Shannen Joyce was disallowed. A further point and what seemed like a goal scored from inside the square sent a now more confident Ballinora a point ahead at half time. Youghal resumed the second half with Shannen Joyce scoring a point to level the scores. A goal followed by the same player to put Youghal again 3 points ahead. Shannen scored again on the 43rd minute to put Youghal 4points clear. The game then entered a phase where Youghal defence was under constant pressure. Each player then rolled up their sleeves and worked tirelessly for the cause. The impressive Niamh Quill and Chloe Daly combo worked hard to keep the Ballinora team at bay which proved a success as the final whistle blew and the youghal team were crowned County champions. The final score stood at 3-4 to 2-4 to Youghal.
