In the East Cork Plate Final hosted in Youghal GAA grounds our U12 girls were victorious against a very strong Cloyne team. Youghal went into this game after beating St. Colmans of Shanagarry in the semi final. On a very poor evening weather wise for any game credit much go to both teams for a very entertaining game of football and to both sets of supporters who came displaying their colours galore. Both teams gave it their all over both halves and at the short whistle the Youghal girls lead 2-0 to 1-2 afte just getting a goal before half time. As expected the Cloyne girls came back to lead with just 10 minutes remaining on a score line of 2-3 to 2-1. With both sets of supporters really getting behind their teams it was nick and tuck with chances going amiss on both sides and it was anyone's game heading into to final minutes. A slick move started by captain and superb full-back on the night, Keilin Coleman, ended up with a late Youghal goal which proved to be the difference between two very evenly matched teams on the night for a Youghal victory on a scoreline of 4-1 to 2-3 It was a great team spirit at the end with Youghal retaining the plate for the second year in a row. The team paraded through the town with honours which is becoming a very welcome tradition for this young club.
The month of July will be a quiet affair on the training ground until August when full steam ahead for championship in September . A big thank you goes out to all parents and supporters for all the help on the evening.
