Youghal 3-8 Glanmire 0-8
PAUL MOYLAN provided the inspiration as Youghal saw off the challenge of fellow east Cork side Glanmire in a disappointing county IFC fourth round tie at Rostellan on Saturday night.
Operating at left-corner forward, Moylan bagged 2-3 to put his side into the last eight, where they await the winners of the Killavullen, Cill na Martra and Kinsale triangle.

The Seasiders could not have asked for a better start. Playing with the wind, they won a penalty 20 seconds in which Moylan coolly converted, sending the Glanmire keeper the wrong way.

Big Ken Dempsey tacked on a point a minute later and it looked as if the Riverstown side were in for a drubbing. However, they weathered the early Youghal storm well and stayed in touch with their opponents throughout the opening half, thanks to the accuracy of full-forward James Murphy who scored all four Glanmire points.

In contrast, three of the six Youghal forwards got on the scoresheet but they had to defend stoutly coming up to half time as Glanmire sought an equalising goal, and their half-time lead of 1-4 to 0-4 didn’t look to be sufficient given the strength of the wind.

However, Glanmire needed early second-half scores if they were to get back into the game but a resolute Youghal defence proved impregnable, with Brendan O’Sullivan, Paul O’Driscoll and John Grace outstanding.

With Paul Kelly and Nigel Roche giving their opponents’ defence a torrid time, Youghal added 1-4 without reply to effectively kill the game as a contest.

Paul Moylan began the scoring burst with a point and only great defending by the Glanmire backs denied David O’Mahony a second Youghal goal.

The pressure on the Glanmire defence was incessant and it paid off with a second goal by Moylan, who ran on to a perfect through pass from Paul Kelly to score with ease.

Such was the dominance of Youghal, it took Glanmire 26 minutes to add to their first-half tally with a Daniel Molden point in the 48th minute and, when Michael Cussen added another a minute later, there was still plenty of time to threaten a revival.

However, this slick-moving Youghal side nipped any hint of a Glanmire recovery in the bud in the 53rd minute with their third goal, when Paul Moylan’s 20-metre free come back off the Glanmire upright to Roche, who coolly slotted home.

It was plain sailing from there to the finish with James Murphy adding two late points to put some respectability on the final scoreline for a hugely disappointing Glanmire side.
